Mumbai, India – A dispute over the digital identity associated with “Tatler India” has escalated after Voxora Media Group confirmed that it received a legal notice from Tatler Asia concerning digital assets associated with the name.

Voxora Media Group, founded by entrepreneur Rajattkumar Dani, says it independently acquired the tatlerindia.com domain as a business asset and also acquired control of the @tatlerindia Instagram username.

According to Voxora, the company subsequently initiated outreach to representatives connected with Tatler to explore two possible outcomes: a strategic partnership for the Indian market or a commercial acquisition and transfer of the digital assets.

The discussions did not result in a commercial resolution. Voxora says the matter later moved into a legal dispute when Tatler Asia issued a legal notice to the company and its founder.

The @tatlerindia Instagram account was subsequently disabled. Voxora has questioned whether complaints connected with the dispute contributed to the platform action. The company does not have independent access to Meta’s internal decision-making, and the precise reason for the account action should therefore be verified with Meta and Tatler Asia.

“We acquired these digital assets for business purposes. From the beginning, our preference was to have a professional discussion – either explore working together in India or discuss a commercial acquisition of the assets.” – Rajattkumar Dani, Founder, Voxora Media Group

A Commercial Resolution Remains on the Table

Voxora says tatlerindia.com remains under its control and that it is still prepared to discuss a negotiated transfer if there is serious commercial interest in acquiring the domain.

Dani said the company believes that where a digital asset has commercial value to another organisation, direct negotiation can provide a more constructive route than allowing the matter to remain an indefinite legal dispute.

“If an organisation believes an asset is strategically important to its future in India, we believe the professional way forward is to sit across the table and find a commercial solution. We remain open to a serious proposal,” Dani said.

The dispute also highlights the increasingly complex relationship between domain names, social-media usernames, trademarks and international brand expansion. Ownership of a domain name or social-media username does not, by itself, establish trademark ownership or an official affiliation with an existing international brand.

Voxora maintains that its acquisition of the digital assets was a commercial investment and says it does not intend to falsely represent an association that has not been formally established. The company says any independent future publishing project would require distinct branding and would not present itself as an authorised Tatler Asia operation unless such a relationship were formally agreed.
